GREYS GREEN ran out winners at DORCHESTER on Sunday.
The hosts, batting first, got off to a good start as they eased to 41-0 on a pitch with a fast outfield. A leg-side catch from wicketkeeper Holroyd and a slip catch from Rooke removed two of the danger-men, McComb and Redhead, and when Ahmed found the top edge of Sharman, the hosts were on 69-3.
The remaining batsmen found it difficult to pierce the field from the slower bowlers, so much so that the last 30 overs garnered just 60 more runs, with Fairhead taking 4-15 as the Dorchester innings closed on 143-9.
The second-wicket partnership of Dennis and Lubbock put Greys Green in control but when Lubbock was caught on the straight boundary, Dorchester’s Pugh and Sharman started to cause problems with some searching pace bowling and the required rate started to rise as the visitors still needed 50 with five wickets remaining.
With Dawkins watchful and Rooke ever keen to pounce on the loose ball, the support bowlers found it difficult to contain this partnership and the winning runs came in a rush, with the visitors reaching their target with seven overs to spare.
