Broom sweeps up to secure place in end of season national final

PHYLLIS Court’s players continue to excel in individual tournaments as Alastair Broom became the latest member to qualify for an end of season national final.

Broom’s success came with victory in the 32-player B-Level (4+) Series tournament at Cheltenham.

He did it the hard way when he dropped one of his three block games and had to rely on his good net hoops score to win the block and qualify for the next phase.

Broom turned the same trick in the winners’ block round to reach the final where be beat the undefeated Neil Pinker of Bath 7-4 and will now play in the final at Budleigh Salterton in Devon in September.

Phyllis Court’s AC handicap team had a successful debut in the National Longman Cup competition last week, with a 5-2 victory against visitors Kington Langley.

The news was not so good on the golf croquet front last week, when Phyllis Court 1+ got close to victory in the National Inter-Club (tier 2) competition but were beaten 4-3 by Guildford in at the last hoop in the deciding game in the closest match.

This result ended Phyllis Court’s involvement in thecompetition, but it still has teams in tiers 1 and 2, the Federations Shield (Advantage) and the AC Longman Cup, on the National stage.
