It’s not so smart to be on your phone when circus is in town

PUT down your smartphone, the circus is in town.

PUT down your smartphone, the circus is in town.

Circus Ginnett is playing from today (Friday) until Sunday at the Stubbings Estate, Henley Road, Maidenhead.

With a long history in circus, variety and theatre performances dating back to the early 1800s, the Ginnetts are one of the oldest circus and variety families in Europe.

Year after year, under the direction and management of circus director Patrick Austin, Ginnett’s has been travelling the length and breadth of the UK, aiming to bring joy and happiness to everyone who sees the show.

It’s why Patrick, who performs with Vader the Wonder Dog, wants to encourage famililes to turn their gadgets off — at least for an hour or so.

He said: “People and families are so addicted to their phones, iPads and laptops with social media apps that they are missing out on real life and real-life entertainment.

“We are hoping to encourage families to come out and spend some quality time together and enjoy some live entertainment.”

Circus Ginnett’s With the Family show is a truly international affair that is being hosted by Ancsa from Hungary.

Also performing will be Lisandra from Cuba with her beautiful dance, acrobatics and flexibility.

Fanny from France will wow the audience with her trapeze act. There will be fun and frolics from David the clown from England.

And Zavatta will bemuse kids and adults alike with his human slinky.

Billed as a traditional circus for all the family, fans of big top entertainment can also look forward to jugglers, hand balancers, hula hoopers, acrobats and more.

A spokesman for the Stubbings Estate said: “We are thrilled Circus Ginnett are returning after another successful visit last year.”

Starting today (Friday), there will be three performances daily at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Each will last around 45 minutes and the gate to the circus will open 30 minutes before the performance.

The big top has been erected on the north field at Stubbings. Car parking will be provided on a field, so appropriate footwear is advised.

Tickets are £6 for adults and £4 for children. Under-fours are free if sitting in an adult’s lap.

To book, visit the website or for more information call 01628 820140 during normal office hours.
