Hard day’s night

ALEX Eberhard and Bernd Rest from the All Things Must Pass band were celebrating the music of George Harrison at the Crooked Billet in Stoke Row on Wednesday last week and the pub’s chef, Paul Clerehugh, reflected on the time he served up a range of food at the late former Beatle’s house in Henley, Friar Park, when George, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were working on The Beatles Anthology together.

Paul asked for vegan food, George a variety and then Ringo’s personal assistant put in a request for some very specific, rock ’ n’ roll-style rider foods. When the buffet was served, Ringo commented that it was “a nice spread” but could he have egg and chips? Paul was pleased to report that he did indeed serve Ringo Starr egg and chips.
