Dry, warm May

THE dry weather for spring continued until the third week of May, then 33mm of rain fell on seven days from the 20th.

Normally you would expect at least 40mm over the whole month.

Temperatures were again well above the average and there were no air frosts. The lowest temperature was 2C and there may well have been a grass frost in some areas.

Daytime temperatures were above 20C for 14 days, with a high of 28C on May 1. The mean temperature for the month was 13.85C, well above the 30-year average of 12C. There were at least 240 hours of
sunshine.

As ever, my thanks to Denis Gilbert, from Shiplake, for the statistics.
