AT St Mary’s School the children progress from the nursery, from age two to four, into kindergarten (more commonly known as reception in other settings).
Class sizes are kept small, with an even mix of boys and girls and a maximum of 16 children, ensuring pupils get the individual attention they need.
There is a balance between the children learning alongside an adult and the child learning on their own. These child-initiated activities consolidate the skills learnt in lessons but they are subtly organised into what is recognised as “play”.
Kindergarten has its own designated area, however the children are fully integrated into the school where they are taught by specialist subject teachers in music, French, IT, sport and drama.
There is also a variety of extracurricular clubs available to them such as yoga, judo and construction club. Kindergarten children at St Mary’s are nurtured from the moment they join the school.
