Boys regularly venture up the Thames to Goose Poo Island in kayaks and canoes, or have a history lesson re-enacting the Battle of Trafalgar on the river.
Adventurous activities abound: as well as Forest School for Pre-Prep and an indoor climbing wall, there are plenty of opportunities for fire building, making bows and arrows, and initiative and command tasks amongst others.
Although somewhat of a cliché, boys really can be boys at Moulsford, and they take full advantage of their natural surroundings.
The clear focus of Moulsford is on all-round achievement and helping boys to find their individual strengths and talents — most importantly in the classroom, but also on the sports field, in the performing and creative arts, and more generally as considerate and well-mannered citizens who contribute positively to their community.
Boys mainly join Moulsford in reception and year three, although occasionally spaces become available in other year groups. Flexi- and weekly boarding is optional from year five (age 10), to help prepare those choosing senior boarding schools.
Pupils are prepared for 13+ common entrance or scholarship entry to top independent schools such as Eton, Harrow, Radley, Wellington, Marlborough, St Edward’s Oxford and Bradfield, with a sizeable portion choosing more local options including Abingdon, Magdalen College School, Pangbourne and Shiplake.
A daily bus service runs to and from Shiplake via Henley, with minibus routes bringing pupils from Tidmarsh via Pangbourne and from Watlington.
