CHILDREN ask an average of 125 questions a day and the science laboratory at St Mary’s is an excellent place to find answers to some of them.
Children are fascinated by science, with its many different aspects and continual new discoveries.
It is the primary school years that engender a life-long love of the subject, through hands-on experiments and investigations.
This spirit of active enquiry is central to science teaching at St Mary’s, with the emphasis placed on understanding the relevance of science to everyday life — as well as making links with other subjects in the curriculum.
The well-equipped science laboratory means that the majority of lessons are practically based, giving the pupils a very important kinaesthetic angle to their learning.
At all ages the pupils undertake investigative work which allows them to develop the techniques and skills that provide the building blocks necessary to flourish at secondary school level.
This approach means that by the time pupils leave St Mary’s, the questions they ask are the right ones and the answers to others have been discovered.
