Thousands ‘come from near and far’ to see equestrian prowess at Berkshire festival

The Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club (RCBPC) drew record crowds of nearly 4,000 people to the county for a celebration of high-level sport.

The annual Polo Festival, which celebrated its 40th anniversary on August 17, showcased competitive matches with six teams vying for the coveted festival title.

La Mariposa from the USA saw off Minninnooka 8-4 to win the event.

Chairman of the RCBPC Jamie Morrison said, “Ever since my dad set up this club, the objective was always to make it as open and accessible to as many people as possible.

“It was great to see so many people come from near and far to help create such a fun atmosphere.”

As well as polo matches, the event hosted a range of performers, including a children’s entertainer and balloon artist.

There was also a special zone for children with bouncy castles, face painting and a variety of music, as well as competitions and car displays.

Music publisher - and keen polo fan - Byran Morrison purchased RCBPC’s 200-acre estate near Windsor in 1985, originally the site of a former racing yard.

Just one year later, the then Prince of Wales, now King Charles III, opened the club as its first member.
