THE 2019 Chilterns Walking Festival spring event will take place from Saturday, May 18 to Sunday, June 2.
The programme includes more than 50 guided walks, events and activities with opportunities to try a wide variety of walks, from short gentle ambles to challenging hill climbs.
What they all have in common is the gorgeous Chilterns landscape with its mix of rolling farmland, woodlands and spectacular views.
Each walk is guided by an experienced walk leader who knows the area well and is keen to share stories of the people and places that have shaped the countryside.
Some of the walks give you the chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at gardens, art studios or farms.
You get to meet the artists, craftspeople, farmers, archaeologists, historians, countryside rangers, food producers and storytellers of the Chilterns.
The programme includes:
• Meet the Maker — art and craft walk from Nuffield, visiting a blacksmiths and a furniture maker with some inspiring scenery along the way.
• A walk to a woodland camp where there’ll be a kettle simmering and the option to cook your lunch over a campfire.
• Follow in the footsteps of our ancestors along the “Tuddingway”, a medieval route along the meandering Thames corridor with some diversions up into the beech woods.
• Discover Henley-on-Thames, its history, Midsomer Murders and filming locations with personal anecdotes and information not found in the guide books.
The full programme will be available from mid-March at www.visit
chilterns.co.uk/walkingfest
Most events are free, although some require a small fee which will be clearly shown. To assist walk leaders with numbers, most walks and events must be pre-booked.
• The festival is organised by the Chilterns Conservation Board and sponsored by Brakspear.
