Pangbourne Rotary Club

WOODCOTE 10km will mark its 40th anniversary in the new year.

The race will take place on Sunday, January 8, starting at the village hall at 10.15am. The undulating course is known as “the tough one”.

The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Pangbourne and will be raising money for Blood Bikes, the Purley Park Trust and other charities and good causes.

The event is sponsored by Warmingham estate agents and Peppard Building
Supplies.

The cost of entry is £20 (£18 for affiliated club runners) and the minimum age for entry is 15.

For more information and to enter the race, visit www.woodcote10k.org.uk

Meanwhile, following a generous donation from the team at the Jubilee Day Nursery in Padworth, which was augmented by funds from Pangbourne Rotary Club’s charity fund, a sum of £2,700 was donated to the Pakistan flood appeal.

The United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs has reported that 5.2 million people have been affected, with 436,000 houses destroyed by the heavy rainfall and flash floods in Pakistan.

About 1,200 people have lost their lives and more than 4,900 have been injured.

Rotary is working with Lifesaver to provide clean drinking water to those who do not have this basic facility to stay healthy and safe. Funds have been used to purchase 33 LifeSaver Water Cubes to be delivered to the Rotary Club of Islamabad Metropolitan (Pakistan) for distribution to the most affected areas.

This is another great example of Rotary getting aid quickly to those that urgently need it.
