A CORONATION party in Ewelme on Monday was moved indoors due to the threat of rain.
The celebration was due to be held on the common but the organisers decided the day before to move it into village hall. About 130 people attended and enjoyed picnics, tea and cake and live acoustic music by Blake Solomon.
Some children got up on stage and danced while others took part in competitions, including naming a large stuffed dog, guessing how many sweets were in a jar and finding a crown hidden in a map of Ewelme.
On one table, there was a selection of homemade cakes to raise money for St Mary’s Church, including one with gold dusting in the shape of King Charles’ royal cipher.
Partygoers dressed up the tables they had booked for a chance to win a bottle of Prosecco, tin of biscuits or a hamper. Rebecca-Jane Lanigan, one of the organisers, said: “We cancelled part of the fete but didn’t give up on the rest of the party.
“People brought their own picnics and my charity, Services Outreach Support, had a bar where we sold Prosecco, jugs of Pimm’s and tea. The winning name for the dog was Adele, which is a bit random, and three prizes were handed out for the best-dressed tables.
“Everyone made an absolutely fantastic effort and it was a great day.”
