Dave Stewart’s Eurthymics, Thursday, July 11

DAVE Stewart took to the stage on the second night to perform his Eurythmics hits.

The anticipation was palpable as he arrived five minutes before the scheduled start in an Audi SUV.

Stewart made his entrance on to roaring applause and whistles.

Dressed in a full reflective suit and hat, he opened with Missionary Man with Australian Vanessa Amorosi taking Annie Lennox’s role as lead vocalist.

The crowd responded enthusiastically, with a few people standing up to sing along. Despite some empty seats, the energy was infectious.

Stewart’s third song, I Love You Like a Ball and Chain, received loud applause. The crowd’s excitement peaked with Thorn in My Side as everyone stood up and sang along.

It was followed by There Must Be an Angel and Here Comes the Rain Again, to which people danced.

As the night progressed, the atmosphere grew in excitement.

Who’s That Girl and There Must Be an Angel had everyone dancing, including people on passing boats.

Stewart’s switch from electric to classical guitar for an instrumental saxophone and guitar piece was met with cheers.

Here Comes the Rain Again brought the crowd to their feet once more and a woman near the front moved as if possessed.

Despite the chilly evening, the performance remained hot.

Stewart introduced Would I Lie to You? before some guests began to leave but the energy quickly picked up again.

The star dedicated Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves to all the women, causing the grandstand to shake with enthusiastic foot-stomping.

The climax of the night was Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), where everyone was up and dancing, singing along to the timeless lyrics.

Stewart’s connection with the audience was evident as he got people to sing the lyrics themselves, creating a communal, joyous experience.

The show concluded with a standing ovation, marking the end of a memorable and nostalgic performance.
