People think I only work five days but I never stop

THEY say Henley Royal Regatta never changes but Edward Warner disagrees, writes Helen Patchett.

He has seen many developments during his seven years as assistant secretary.

One of them was the new regatta control barge, a 65-tonne structure which took two-and-a-half years to build before it was first used in 2010.The previous barge had been in use since it was built in 1958 and was fully renovated only once in 1988.

Mr Warner helped to oversee the design and construction of the barge with architectural firm Populous, structural engineers Capita Bobrowski and architectural metalwork specialists Littlehampton Welding.

The £500,000 barge sits at the finish line and is held in position by six steel legs which are winched into place in the river bed.
