Moon dust and astronauts’ equipment on show

SPACE suits and lunar dust will be on display at Leander Club in Henkley for all to see free.

In an event open to the public, renowned space collector Dr Michael Warner will host an exhibition of museum-quality space artefacts, including Commander Dave Scott’s space suit communications umbilical.

The event will feature lunar dust from Cdr Scott’s PPK (personal preference kit, used to carry his personal items) collected from a valley on the moon called Hadley Rille, Command Module Pilot Al Worden’s star navigation chart and a film of the lunar surface shot from a SIMBAY camera.

There will be a film screening of Apollo 15 — In the Mountains of the Moon as well as a question and answer session and a buffet supper at the club.

Dr Warner is a member of the British Interplanetary Society. He has previously given talks to the Geological Society, the Centre for Planetary Sciences at University College London and Oxford and Space Systems and he hosts a podcast series called The Business of Space.

The exhibition will be open from 5pm to 6.30pm and is free to enter, while tickets for the buffet cost £15. The film will be shown from 6.30pm to 7.15pm and the buffet is open from 7.15pm to 8pm.

A talk called “Apollo 15 mission artefacts from the surface of the Moon” will start at 8pm and finish at 9.15pm.

Drinks may be bought at the club bar during the film intermission and before the talk.

To book or put your name down for the exhibition, call Leander on (01491) 575782 or email events@leander.co.uk
