Car ablaze near closure-threatened fire station

FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blazing car in Wargrave.

The Audi burst into flames, sending black smoke billowing into the air, in Victoria Road at about noon on Wednesday last week.

A crew from Wokingham Road fire station in Reading put out the fire but the car was destroyed.

Wargrave fire station, which is in Victoria Road, is facing closure under plans by the Royal Berkshire Fire Authority to save £2.4 million by 2020.

It is a retained station with nine staff and one engine.
