IT WAS a veritable ‘Bee-hemian Rhapsody’ for the ROTHERFIELD UNITED WOMEN — The Queen Bees — as they secured a 4-0 win over LONGFIELD PARK VIXENS in the final game of the season to be crowned Development Division Champions.
The hosts were immediately ‘under pressure’ from midfield titans Tia Jacobs and Kat Horwood who pressed hard to supply strikers G Hill and Hannah Palmer.
Wingers Olivia Shepherd and Gemma Tominey both went close with some great chances .
The vixens replied and wanted to ‘break free’ but the back line of Leila Elliot, Lou Colam, Isla Fenning and Claire Rilett held fast, helping to keep golden gloves Eliza Carpenter on track for another clean sheet. It’s always a ‘kind of magic’ when Zaya Carter gets the ball and a pass to G Hill put the Bees a goal to the good just before half time.
The vixens started the second half with some energy but were denied by the safe hands of Carpenter.
Tominey’s offside goal injected some renewed passion into the Bees play and Hill screamed in another scorcher from the corner to make it 2-0.
The ‘killer Queen’ Bees were now flowing like ‘mercury’ as Georgie Basford and Daisy Stokoe combined well on the wing to create the third — a pass to Tominey then parried to Palmer to find the target.
Elly Gallagher linked up well to keep the pressure on.
Palmer decided ‘I want it all’ and scored her second of the day with a cheeky interception to make it 4-0 .
Dagmar Heilbuth was unlucky with an offside decision as it could have been a fifth for the bees.
A club spokeswoman said: “We promised at the start of the season ‘ we will rock you’ and we damn well did.”
Elsewhere in the Thames Valley Counties Women’s League WARGRAVE WOMEN suffered another defeat on Sunday, losing 3-0 at home to SLOUGH TOWN FC LADIES in their Division 1 clash.
