Wonderful Webber nets four as Woodcote ease to victory

WOODCOTE eased to a 5-0 Premier Division win at HENLEY TOWN’S Triangle Ground in their Premier Division clash on Wednesday of last week, in a match played out in front of more than 150 spectators.

Town couldn’t get to grips with Woodcote’s early pressure and soon conceded when Toby Nowell headed in a cross past Isaac Aitchison after eight minutes.

The visitors were quicker and more positive dictating the midfield and soon added to their lead with Joe Webber scoring in the 18th and 27th minutes to give them a 3-0 half time lead.

Henley picked up the pace in the second half and came close a couple of times with efforts from Luke Mulvaney and Marvin Hinds along with a strong appeal for a penalty when Mulvaney was upended in the box.

The home side continued to have the better of possession but were undone in the 72nd minute when Webber added another to complete his hat-trick and then with minutes remaining curled a superb left foot shot from 20 yards past Aitchison into the far corner to seal a comfortable victory.

On Saturday, HENLEY TOWN went down to a 3-0 defeat away at TADLEY CALLEVA RESERVES.

Town started slowly and conceded after just two minutes when a Jordan Holmes deflected shot beat keeper Isaac Aitchison.

The visitors conceded a penalty in the 10th minute when Kyle Moorcroft fouled Holmes in the box. Aitchison dived down to his right to smother the ball and collected the ball at the second attempt.

Henley had the majority of possession for the remainder of the half and created chances with Adam Palmer and James Griffiths providing crosses into the area that Charlie Douglas was unable to get on the end of.

In the second half Tadley, with their more physical approach, started to dictate play and added a second on 60 minutes when after a corner Lors Nicholas headed home at the second attempt.

Town only produced one chance of note with Mulvaney heading against the crossbar before the home side scored a third when Harrison West scored after Griffiths made a rare mistake in defence.

WOODCOTE were brought down to earth with a bang on Saturday as they went down to a 4-1 defeat at SLOUGH HEATING LAURENCIANS. The visitors were well below par against a physical home side, Woodcote’s only goal of the game from a Locke Harper penalty.

WARGRAVE ran out 5-2 winners away at SLOUGH HEATING LAURENCIANS on Wednesday of last week.

The visitors started well but found themselves 1-0 down after five minutes after a deflected shot from Ollie Lincoln beat the keeper.

Wargrave started to create chances after that and Callum Brighton equalised from midfield, bursting through Slough’s defence and finishing calmly.

Debutant Adam Crozier later volleyed a cross in for captain Joe Wigmore to crash the ball home from close range. Wigmore added a third before half-time for a 3-1 lead.

Both teams made several chances in the second half but it was Brighton who added his second to make it 4-1 before he completed his hat-trick heading home from another Crozier cross.

Slough added their second in the final minute with a long-range effort from Connor Shingleston.

On Saturday, WARGRAVE produced their best performance of the season as they defeated visitors BURGHFIELD 4-1. Brighton opened the scoring from midfield with a 20-yard strike into the top corner. Fred Kirby made it 2-0 heading home from a Crozier cross after 20 minutes.

Burghfield had their best spell of the game and won a penalty when their winger was brought down by the Wargrave keeper. Ollie Brown stepped up and slotted home.

Captain Wigmore made it 3-1 before half-time after great pressing from Kirby who won the ball high and played a clever reverse pass to Wigmore who smashed the ball home from the edge of the box.

The second half saw less chances although Ollie Brown was a constant threat for Burghfield but it was Wargrave’s Micah Elwood who scored his first goal for the club to make it 4-1.

In Division 1, GORING UNITED ran out 4-1 winners away at FLEET SPURS.

Matthew Hayden put the visitors ahead after 26 minutes before George Scoffham doubled his side’s lead on 33 minutes. Innes Walker and Hayden, with his second of the match, completed the scoring for United in the second half. In Division 2, HENLEY TOWN DEVELOPMENT went down to a 2-1 home defeat against AFC WINKFIELD RESERVES.

The home side started slowly and following a mistake the visitors took the lead.

Henley picked up their game with more aggression and equalised when a loose ball fell to Jake Jones in the box who slotted home after 20 minutes.

Henley were now in the ascendancy and playing well before Henry McDonagh picked up two quick yellow cards and found themselves down to 10 men.

Playing a man down in the second half eventually took its toll as the visitors netted the winner from a shot from the edge of the box.

With 10 minutes remaining Henley pushed for an equaliser but the visitors held firm to secure all three points.

In Division 3, HAMBLEDEN crashed to a 4-1 defeat at home to YATELEY UNITED B.

Fielding six debutants in the starting 11, Hambleden started strongly and had an early headed goal by Craig Dew disallowed.

Yateley grew into the game and scored from header from a corner on 15 minutes. Soon after, a slip from the home side’s centre back put a Yateley forward in on goal where he slotted past the keeper to make it 2-0.

From the next attack Hambleden forward Ashley Hanson, latched on to a long ball, rounded the stranded keeper and tucked the ball in from a tight angle to reduce the arrears.

Just before half-time, Hambleden were forced into a substitution due to a challenge on their centre midfielder causing an ankle injury.

Five minutes into the second half Hambleden were looking to bench again after right back Freddie Lock was on the receiving end of a late tackle with manager Mark Butler coming off the bench to replace him.

Yateley wrapped up the points with two goals in the final minutes of the game.

Elsewhere in the division, GORING UNITED RESERVES went down to a 5-2 defeat away at MARLOW UNITED RESERVES with Robert Eaglesham netted both the visitors’ goals.

A young, newly-formed ROTHRERFIELD UNITED side got their Division 4 season off to a flying start as they thrashed visitors BRACKNELL PANTHERS 10-3. Under the management of Mat Beech and Ollie Wagstaff, all but two of the United side had previously played youth football for the villagers.

With both captain Harry Green and vice captain Charlie Wagstaff unavailable for the fixture, Rotherfield went a goal down early on from a penalty.

United hit back with skipper for the day Joe Beville going straight up the other end where he won and converted a penalty to make it 1-1 after five minutes.

As the game settled down, it took another 20 minutes Joe Beville stepped up again to put Rotherfield ahead with a free kick. This signalled a flurry of goals before half-time with Gardner, Morgan and Will Beville sending Rotherfield into a 5-1 half-time lead.

Panthers pulled a goal back early in the second half before Joe Beville completed his hat-trick soon after. Panthers hit back again to make it 6-3.

The last 12 minutes saw Gardner complete his hat-trick with two more goals, one of which was a fine strike from outside the box, alongside a coolly taken finish from Rolstone while on the spin and an own goal after a great team move.
