Blackwell leads the way at club’s end of year Kathy Sparks competition

FOLLOWING Henley Golf Club’s annual Kathy Sparks competition, parents and helpers assembled for the presentation of the 2024 junior prize winners with the aid of the junior organiser Mark Howell, junior league organiser Nick Broomfield and junior captain Tom Bloomfield.

The Kathy Sparks competition was won by Harry Blackwell, with Rhys Herbert second and Freddie Estornel third. The Junior Sparks was won by Luke Taylor, with Thomas Willenbrook runner-up. Young Sparks was won by Joe Gilbert with Dexter Walls runner-up while Charlotte Vernon won the Mini Sparks with Charlie Craig runner-up. The junior section, which has 133 members, just missed out on getting to the final of the Thames Valley Junior League after losing 3-2 to Caversham Heath.

Twenty juniors featured in the awards with a number of repeat winners. The major awards went to Harry Blackwell who won the order of merit Division 1, Division 2 order of merit went to Jack Saker, junior club championship went to Angus Smith, the vice captain for 2025.

Junior President’s Day was won by Freddie Estornel while Emma Cook won the girls’ order of merit, Freddie Postlethwaite won the junior BB&O tour championship and was also the most improved coaching scholarship. Dexter Walls won seven trophies in his division.
