AS we enter the New Year, I want to reflect on the past
12 months and thank residents across Henley for the privilege of representing our community.

It has been a challenging year for many. International conflicts continue to create uncertainty, while at home families and businesses are still feeling the impact of the cost of living. Supporting those under pressure remains a key priority for me.

Locally, one of the most pressing issues has been the condition of the River Thames.

As recently reported, delays to improving bathing water rules risk leaving rivers like ours without proper protection. Poor water quality is already affecting events and everyday use of the river in Henley and I will continue pressing the Government to act more quickly.

Infrastructure has also been high on my agenda. I have been working to support the reopening of the Marsh Lock horsebridge, which has been closed for more than three years.

I was proud to support nine-year-old Claudia Fennell, whose campaign gathered almost 6,000 signatures calling for urgent action. I accompanied Claudia to Downing Street to present her petition, which helped maintain momentum and secure funding to begin planning the bridge replacement. I will continue to hold those responsible to account until the bridge is fully reopened.

The future of Henley fire station has also raised understandable concern. Oxfordshire County Council is consulting on how best to improve fire and rescue cover across the county.

My focus has been on ensuring that any changes maintain or improve the level of protection for Henley and I will continue to scrutinise the evidence carefully as the process continues.

I have also enjoyed visiting The Henley College to meet students and staff and I continue to support efforts to secure a banking hub in Henley so residents and businesses can access essential services locally.

Improving local connectivity remains important. I am campaigning for safer walking and cycling routes, including better links between Sonning Common and Ewelme.

I was honoured to lay a wreath in Henley on Remembrance Sunday, joining residents in remembering those who gave their lives in service.

It is a privilege to serve as your MP. I look forward to continuing to work with and for the people of Henley in the year ahead and I wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year.
