SOME readers may think that this subject is overdue since this newspaper sponsors the roundabout where the eye-catching sculpture in my picture was installed about 18 months ago.

The 10ft tall sculpture by Rachel Ducker is of a female figure with a body made from galvanised steel wire and hair of enamelled aluminium.

The original concept of her leaping out of water has reached maturity now that the surrounding ornamental long grasses have grown and move in the breeze.

As a landmark welcome to our town for those approaching from the Reading side, it does what was intended and portrays Henley as a gateway to a healthy lifestyle. It also hints at the water that is a key feature of the town.
