Shops and children mark war centenary

SHOPS in Henley marked the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War with special window displays.

The Bell Bookshop in Bell Street filled its windows with British flags, bunting and chalkboards with quotes about the war from historical figures such as former American president Herbert Hoover.

Books of poetry, fiction, history and biographies have been put on display by manager Alison Rosby.

At the Oxfam book shop in Duke Street, volunteer Sally-Anne Plunket put together a display of books from or about the conflict.

Fellow volunteer Robin Batchelor-Smith designed banners featuring fields of poppies which have been put up in the windows.
