Boxer in charity fight for sister

Boxer in charity fight for sister

A MAN from Henley is to take part in a boxing match tomorrow (Saturday) to raise money for a charity.

Matt Eggleton, 35, of Luker Avenue, will fight at Henley leisure centre in Gillotts Lane in aid of the Chiltern Centre, which supports young adults with learning disabilities.

His sister, Erin, 23, has used the centre since she was five years old.

Mr Eggleton, a ground worker, says he wants to give back and so far has raised £450 through a JustGiving page.

He has been training for the fight twice a week for the past eight weeks but says he is nervous.

“It’s the first time I’ve really done boxing since I was a kid,” said Mr Eggleton. “I’ve done it three times before and I’m nowhere near ready but we’ll see. Now it’s close, I’m a bit nervous but you get a head guard and stuff so it should be fun.”

The event is part of the ultra-event series organised by Cancer Research.

Mr Eggleton initially decided to do it with a group of friends but was the only one to see it through.

He trains at the Shaolin Tigers Martial Arts Academy in Reading, runs with friends and plays golf at Badgemore Park. Mr Eggleton said the Chiltern Centre had helped Erin “massively”.

He said: “It’s like a respite for her. She goes there to do activities and weekends away.”

His mother, Michelle Gosby, friends and family friends will join him at the match and celebrate with him afterwards.
