Housing plans for Stuart Turner site thrown out by District Council

PLANS to build nearly 60 homes on the site of a business park in Henley have been refused by the planning authority.

South Oxfordshire District Council said that the plans by the Green Regeneration Property Company failed to provide employment space in place of what was being lost and did not have an acceptable drainage strategy.

The London-based developer had applied for permission to transform the site of Stuart Turner, one of the town’s largest employers, into housing. It planned to build 46 houses, 10 with two bedrooms, 18 with three bedrooms and 18 with four bedrooms and 11 two-bedroom maisonettes.

In its decision notice, the district council additionally criticised the scheme on the grounds that it did not provide 40 per cent affordable housing. In its plans, this only stood at 11 per cent as previously identified by Henley Town Council’s planning commitee which recommended the scheme for refusal in November.

A full report will be in the Henley Standard next Friday (16).
