HENLEY 3rds secured their second Oxfordshire Winter League Division 4 win of the season on Monday of last week in their rearranged clash with Carterton.
The highlight of the evening came from club chairman Steve Dance, who, after falling 2-0 battled back to take the next two games 16–14 and 15–13 before sealing the match 15–8 in the fifth set. Henley won the match 16-7.
Three days later Henley 3rds went down to a 19-2 defeat against clubmates and unbeaten league leaders Henley 2nds. Although the second team were expected to dominate, Henley 3rds’ Peter Hopkins took two games from his higher-rated opponent Richard Little in an entertaining five-game contest (15–11, 5–15, 15–13, 11–15, 5–15). Fast-improving Miles Edwards, the club’s player of the month for February, also pushed Jim Reay hard, narrowly losing the second game 19-17.
