Unruly roadside weeds need to be ‘whacked’

Editor — It appears the council have decided to take a break from weed whacking this year.

Who cares about the Chelsea Flower Show? South Oxfordshire appears to be running its own horticultural contest and Shiplake is leading the charge. Ghastly hundred-house planning applications aside, it’s like a scene from an apocalypse dystopia over here with our weeds!

As we gardeners know, there’s a fine line between nicely kept and full bush and we are now well over that line. I’d gladly whack my own weeds but, as a lady of an older generation, I prefer to let the professionals have at it. Please, councillors, pop down and whack these unruly weeds, will you? — Yours faithfully,
