Volunteers prettying up stations

After the news about the rise in rail fares (Standard, March 7), it was good to hear that Henley station will soon receive a new coat of paint ready for the numerous visitors who come to the area for various events during the year.

Since Shiplake Garden Club adopted the village station’s garden in 2007, we have actively campaigned for other stations on the scenic branch line to follow suit. Thanks to the efforts of local volunteers, Twyford, Wargrave and Henley stations all now have colourful displays throughout the year.

These have been supported by Great Western Railway through the community rail partnership. — Yours faithfully,

Mary Batten and Wendy Nicholson
