Shocked by flooded road

Sir, — Having recently moved here from Surrey I am shocked at the incompetence of Oxfordshire County Council.

After work (on goodness knows what) was done at the junction of Wallingford Road and Woodcote Road earlier this year that junction continues to flood badly after the slightest rainfall.

After repeated requests by a number of residents over several months the council came and simply cleared the drains.

It ignored our advice that this would not solve the problem as obviously some damage to the infrastructure had occurred. Consequently flooding continued. As a result of its incompetence residents are now “trapped” in their homes and cannot walk to the bus stop or post box in safety after even the slightest rainfall.

Passing cars are even stopping and offering lifts across the junction! Even the road itself now needs resurfacing in that area because of damage caused.

Come on, Oxfordshire County Council, get your act together and sort this out! — Yours faithfully,

Ruth Mitchell
