TWO of Britain’s finest purveyors of slide, bluegrass, blues, acoustic and early electric rock ’n’ roll guitar return to the Crooked Billet in Stoke Row next month.
Micky Moody and Papa George play the Newlands Lane venue on the evening of Tuesday, March 8, having last performed there in November.
Rock and blues guitarist Micky has strong ties with Henley, having been part of legendary rock band Whitesnake with Shiplake drummer Ian Paice and the much-missed Fawley keyboard wizard Jon Lord, who died in 2013.
While best known for his time with Whitesnake, Micky also enjoyed hits with Juicy Lucy, Frankie Miller, Roger Chapman and Chris Farlowe.
He recently appeared in the BBC television documentary
Great British Rock Guitarists, which also featured Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore and Tony Iommi.
At the Crooked Billet show he will be accompanied by Papa George, who has long been established as one of Britain’s finest blues vocalists and guitarists, having recorded and toured with Gary Moore, Alexis Korner and Peter Green.
He also famously worked with Jimi Hendrix. Blues legend Muddy Waters hailed him as “spectacular”.
Crooked Billet proprietor Paul Clerehugh said: “Considering Whitesnake perform large stadium concerts, it promises to be a special treat to enjoy these excellent musicians in the intimacy of the Crooked Billet.”
