Hawks tame Tigers

HENLEY HAWKS 2nds 24-21 ran out winners in the final match of the year against TIGERS in Division 2 of the Maidenhead and District League. Going into the match the Hawks were third in the table with the Tigers second.

The first quarter saw Tigers edge ahead 7-4, capitalising on sharp shooting and tight defensive play. Hawks, led by their dynamic defensive duo Sarah Kenyon and Emma Robinson worked tirelessly to stifle Tigers' attack. Meanwhile, Cate Fitt proved instrumental in disrupting mid-court play.

Heading into the second quarter, Hawks began to find their rhythm. Leah Daines commanded the court, linking seamlessly with Lou Todd, whose pinpoint feeds into the circle enabled Totie Thomas and Kate Tremayne to close the gap. By half-time, Tigers still held a slim 13-11 lead.

The third quarter was a turning point. Player of the match Emma Robinson put in an exceptional performance, intercepting passes and ensuring Tigers were under constant pressure. This momentum shift saw Hawks edge ahead 18-15 by the end of the quarter.

With everything to play for in the final quarter, Hawks showcased their resilience and teamwork. Cate Fitt continued her excellent defensive coverage, while Lou Todd and Leah Daines maintained composure under pressure, setting up the shooters to capitalise on opportunities. The attacking duo of Totie Thomas and Kate Tremayne displayed remarkable accuracy, securing a 24-21 victory for Hawks.
