Hughes and Len win after overcoming choppy waters

FOLLOWING months of regatta cancellations due to poor river conditions, Henley Rowing Club’s J13 squad finally took to the water to compete at the Walton and Weybridge Regatta last Saturday.

The event, which took place over a 1,000m course on the Thames, proved challenging due to a strong headwind against the stream, causing rowers to contend with rough water.

This proved difficult for the Henley girls’ double of Emily Robinson and Francesca Webb and boys’ double Daniel Blackmore and Miles Vann who lost in their first heat.

However, the other girls’ double of Juliet Len and Isabelle Hughes managed to deal with the conditions and go on to win in the final of their division decisively against crews from Walbrook and Molesey Rowing Club.

The boys’ quad of James Weeks, Flynn Burrow, Miles Vann, Franco Wallace and cox Theo Berry competed in an open event for mixed crews. The Henley quad raced in three heats against crews from Molesey Boat Blub, Weybridge Rowing Club, Walton Rowing Club, Cranmore School and two from Guildford Rowing Club.

In the final the Henley quad eased to a comfortable win against Guidlford. This was a good performance by the Henley crew who were competing in their first competitive race since taking up the sport back in September.
