Christmas lunch for over-60s

10:30AM, Monday 28 November 2016

A FREE lunch for people over 60 will be held in Shiplake on Christmas Day.

Organisers want to help lonely people in the area come together to celebrate.

More than 25 people have already volunteered to help in the run-up to the day.

Irenna Bailey, who is organising the event, said: “We know many older people don’t have any family, or have family who are miles away and won’t be able to share this special day with them.

“We want to provide those people with another type of family for Christmas, so it won’t be just another day of the year.

“It’ll be a time when our community comes together to make our older generation feel treasured and cared for.”

Decorations will be put up the day before and all the food will be prepared on the day. There will be party games and entertainment.

Forty spaces are available for lunch and transport will be provided.

The lunch will take place at Shiplake memorial hall from 12.30pm to 4.30pm.

Anyone wanting to attend or to help should call 07903 078844 or email christmas
