Rowing book talk

THE third series of the Leander library rowing book talks will begin next month with Greg Searle, author of If Not Now, When?

The Olympic champion and Henley Royal Regatta steward will talk about his book, which covers his trajectory to international triumph and his drive and obsession to go for gold.

Searle, 52, and his older brother Jonny won gold in the coxed pair at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona and he was made an MBE at the age of 20.

The two went on to win world championship gold the following year.

Greg also finished third in the coxless four at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and won the Diamond Challenge for single sculls at Henley Royal Regatta in 1997.

In 2012 he came out of retirement and competed at the London Games in the men’s eight that won bronze.

The talk is at Leander Club on Thursday, September 5 from 7pm to 10pm. Tickets cost from £25.08 and include a finger buffet in the dining room.
