HENLEY Tennis Club’s Sebastian Sheldon helped Oxfordshire Boys U12s secure a place in the national finals last week.
Over the two-day competition, both the boys’ and girls’ teams displayed outstanding teamwork and determination, showcasing the future stars of Oxfordshire tennis.
On the first day at Badfield under sunny skies, the Oxfordshire boys delivered a strong performance, defeating Sussex 4-2.
Day two proved even more exciting, as both Oxfordshire teams raised their game. The boys stormed through their match against Berkshire, securing a 5-1 victory. This set the stage for a decisive first and second place showdown against Devon, with a place in the national finals on the line.
With the pressure on, Oxfordshire boys rose to the occasion, pulling out all the stops to deliver a remarkable win. Among the standout performers was Sheldon, whose grit and focus on court were instrumental in the team’s success. His consistency, resilience, and sportsmanship have been key to the team’s strong showing throughout the competition.
The Oxfordshire girls’ team also had an exceptional weekend. After a strong 5-1 victory against Suffolk, they went on to beat Bedfordshire 4-2, finishing in third place overall.
Oxfordshire Boys will contest the national finals on Saturday, September 28, in Nottingham.
