HENLEY Tennis Club held its annual club championships finals day after an exciting summer of matches.
This year saw record entries across all categories, with many matches going the distance.
The day kicked off with the U8 timed event. The eventual winner was Cooper Lynch, who triumphed against Elliot Banwell in a thrilling deciding point.
The high standard of play continued in the U10 mixed singles where Shanaya Yasin defeated Max Mortimer 4-1, 4-1.
A family affair followed with the battle of the sisters, which led to an epic three-setter between Millie Hallam and Verity Hallam. Millie emerged victorious with a 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 win.
The U14 and U18 boys’ finals were played ahead of finals day, as Sebastian Sheldon was representing Oxfordshire in the national finals. Sebastian showcased his talent by winning both club finals against Ayden Yasin and Oliver Hewes.
The adult competitions began with a mixed doubles match, where Levi McAndrew-Brown and Fiona Huggard faced off against Robert Dickie and Catherine Drummond. After a hard-fought two sets, McAndrew-Brown and Huggard claimed victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
In the men’s doubles, two-time finalist Tom Raynor partnered with Simon Perry to defeat John Tamplin and Julian McLean 6-1,
6-3.
In the ladies’ doubles, Fiona Huggard and Rowan Hampson won by a walkover. Catherine Drummond stepped in to organise an exhibition match, allowing the players to showcase their skills. Huggard and Hampson took on Drummond and Sarah McLean, with Huggard and Hampson emerging victorious.
The vets doubles saw Andrew Grant and Simon Perry prove too strong for Jim Neale and Nick Hudec.
The men’s singles final, saw six-time winner and reigning champion Max Miles-Thomas defeat Tom Raynor 6-1, 6-1.
The ladies’ singles saw Maria Rosier narrowly edge out Lizzie Miles 7-5, 7-5.
