No increase

A SCHOOL in Caversham has been denied permission to increase pupil numbers.

The Heights Primary School in Upper Woodcote Road applied to increase numbers to 420 from its current cap of 350.

At a Reading Borough Council planning applications committee meeting last week, councillors refused the application saying it would be to the detriment of other schools in the area.

Councillor Jan Gavin, who represents Caversham on the borough council, said that if 70 extra spaces were freed up in community schools it could lead to their closure.
