IT was with heavy hearts that the Henley Royal Regatta enthusiasts listened to the rain that fell before breakfast on Wednesday. However, it takes more than a little rain to prevent the river lovers from attending and determined optimists filled the early trains from Paddington. The sun peeped out several times on the journey and by the time Henley was reached, it was shining brilliantly and doing its best to disperse the rain clouds.

Messrs Simmons & Sons held their annual wool sale on Friday, when about 5,000 fleeces were offered. There was a good attendance with buyers from Ireland, Huddersfield, Bradford, London, Thame, Peebles and Charlbury.

The Smith Hospital Committee has reported for the year ending March 31, 1924 the number of patients admitted and the diseases which were treated. In 1923, 19 were treated for scarlet fever and eight for diptheria while this year the numbers were 18 and two respectively plus one for measles.
