ON Monday a little boy, the son of a visitor to Henley, was with his nurse on the riverbank near Leander Club. He was sailing a small boat when he toppled over and fell in. The nurse, who could not swim, tried to rescue him but failed. Mr Manley and Mr Rose were near by at the time and the former got in and rescued the little chap, handing him back to Mr Rose who pumped the water out of him.

Laying of the foundation stone in Shiplake began at 3.35am when a procession was formed at the primary school and wended its way to the site of the new buildings. On arrival at the site the procession passed through an avenue formed of boy scouts under the command of assistant scoutmaster E Smith.
