THE search is on for the first Miss Henley of the new millennium. The lucky winner — who will take over from the reigning Miss Henley, Donna Buckett — will be crowned at this year’s Henley Show in September. All contestants should have a good sense of humour, a strong interest in Henley and be able to spend some of their free time representing the town at a number of functions.

A man was under 24-hour police guard in hospital yesterday (Thursday) after being shot in the leg in what may have been a drugs gang’s warning. Detectives believe the shooting was drug-related and have carried out house-to-house enquiries along the Henley Road into Caversham near the scene of Wednesday’s shooting.
