WITH national headlines engrossed in cutbacks and kidnapping, Henley too has had its share of problems with British Rail cutting service to the town, the royal regatta’s lifesaving boat festival plan, scrapped for fears, and one-way scheme to debate. In among these major talking points, life in the town has gone on much the same as normal — in spite of the economic crisis.

Another splendid effort by pupils at Gillotts School, under the organisation of Mrs E King, had meant a happy Christmas for many old people in the Henley area. As in previous years, the pupils contributed food and money, enabling an even greater number of food parcels than before to be distributed to 48 old people.
