35,000 new bins delivered

MORE than 35,000 black bins have been delivered to residents across Wokingham borough.

The roll-out is part of changes to the council’s waste collection.

The new service will mean recycling and general waste will be collected every two weeks alternately. Food waste collections will remain weekly.

The changes will take effect from Monday, August 12.

Free green recycling bins, food waste bins and indoor food caddies can be collected from hubs in the borough or from the council’s engagement team.

The council will only empty one 180-litre rubbish bin with the lid shut and no additional waste. There will be no limit on the amount of recycling residents can put out.

Steve Brown, the council’s assistant director for environment and safety, said: “We know change can seem daunting but we’ve been able to show that recycling soon becomes second nature and we’re here to help.

“When everyone makes those small changes, it all adds up to a big impact.

“It has taken a lot of work to reach this point but we’re almost ready for the service change and we promise our residents that we’ll keep sharing updates as soon as they’re available.”
