Immaculate, secluded, pretty house with bountiful garden

WHEN Sara and Gavin Dickason first set eyes on Cramond in 2016 they immediately felt it was their “forever” home.

The pretty detached chalet-style house in Streatley was to be their first home together before getting married the following year.

It is situated at the end of a private lane and surrounded by half an acre of gardens.

“We stumbled upon Cramond by chance and we knew it was meant to be,” recalls charity worker Mrs Dickason, 59.

“I had previously lived in Henley and Gavin was from Kent and we wanted to buy our first home together.

“We did a lot of work to it when we moved in, especially in the garden, which has a large timber workshop with light and power, where Gavin makes driftwood sculptures from pieces we find on our trips to Sandwich Bay.

“His day job is at Thamesfield retirement village in Henley and I work from home.

“We put a great deal of love and effort into creating our perfect home but now family commitments are taking us back to Henley.”

Cramond is secluded and not overlooked yet within a short walk of the high street and the Thames Path and less than 15 minutes from Wallingford. Built in 1961, the property has a total of 1,883 sq ft and is situated in the middle of its plot.

It is approached through a five-bar gate on to a sweeping gravel drive with parking space for five cars.

Inside the house there is a wide entrance hall with a burnished wooden floor that gives access to all the ground floor rooms.

The sunny sitting room has a wood burner and is dual aspect with large windows overlooking the garden.

The kitchen/breakfast room is fully fitted with granite worktops and connects to a separate utility room at one end and a door to the garden at the other.

There is also a study which could be used as a bedroom, especially as there is also a stylish cloakroom with a shower. On the first floor there are three bedrooms all with generous eaves storage and a contemporary family bathroom.

The house is in immaculate condition.

The detached garage at the side of the property has potential to be extended upwards and to the side.

“We had planned to have an oak car port with accommodation above but we didn’t manage to fulfil that dream,” says Mrs Dickason. “However, we did totally update the whole house and fitted a new combi boiler and central heating system. It’s now perfect for working from home.”

The wraparound garden has three or four main areas and has bountiful borders and shrubs.

A south-facing terrace runs around the west to a brick barbecue area and there are raised beds and a greenhouse.

The couple grow their own fruit and vegetables, having established a large, mature plot with a variety of fruit trees, and Mrs Dickason makes jams and jellies.

The garden is dog-proof with the recent addition of 76m of new fencing.

The house is surrounded by a curtain of green trees with views towards the hills and the river.

The private lane off Wantage Road is owned by Northlands House and has eight homes along it with Cramond nestled at the very end.

• Cramond is on the market with a guide price of £1,350,000. For more information or to arrange a viewing, call Warmingham & Co in Goring on (01491) 874144.
