Election Candidates: Lucy Demery - Conservative (Wokingham)

I AM focused on investing in a vibrant local economy, supporting our local services, protecting our green spaces, and strengthening our national security.

I have a strong business background as a managing director in finance and technology and have advised the Government on public policy initiatives to support innovation and economic growth. I am a hardworking local campaigner, community volunteer and mum of two lovely boys.

I’ve been out across the constituency 12 hours a day, seven days a week — knocking on doors and speaking with residents, businesses and charities. I know it’s a difficult time in politics. That’s why I’m stepping forward now to deliver a bright new future for our area — and really get things done. I have the values, real-world experience and determination to make government work again. My three key pledges are to:

Promote a vibrant local economy. I want families to enjoy a prosperous, high-growth economy. I’m keen to lessen the tax burden to encourage hardworking people and businesses and leave more money in people’s pockets.

Support high-quality local services. I oppose Labour and Lib Dem plans to hike taxes, increase charges for basic local services and weaken local infrastructure. Locally, the Lib Dems have caused traffic chaos with unwanted highway projects, while freezing investment to improve our roads — despite additional funding from our Conservative Government. I will oppose left-wing plans to tax independent schools, which would increase class sizes in state schools.

Protect our green spaces. I recognise the need for new homes in Wokingham, but we must protect our countryside. New housing must be built in the right places, with supporting infrastructure such as schools and GP surgeries. I will oppose Labour and Lib Dem plans to concrete over our green spaces and floodplains.
