Visitors deny hosts in final home clash of inaugural campaign

IT was a double success for Goring Robins’ U13s boys’ and girls’ teams at last weekend’s Rotherfield United Festival of Football.

On Saturday the U13s Reds boys’ team won the cup for their age group with matches against Caversham AFC 1sts and 2nds, Caversham Trents, Didcot Town Reds, Rotherfield United 1sts and 2nds and Reading City.

The Robins went on to beat Benson United 4-3 on penalties in a nail-biting final.

After the win, Harry Denison, U13s reds coach said: “I’m incredibly proud of the team, who worked hard in an impressive performance that saw only one goal conceded all tournament. Having just missed out on making it through to the weekend’s Oxfordshire U13s league final, this was a fantastic way to finish what has been a very successful season.”

On Sunday the U13s girls’ team secured the plate for their age group, which saw matches against Blewbury Amazon Jaguars, Caversham AFC Swans, Caversham Trent and Rotherfield United.

The Robins won 2-0 against Rotherfield in the plate final.

After the game, Sarah Lewis, U13s girls’ coach said: “It was an epic afternoon. All seven players were outstanding and it was great to see them increasing in confidence game by game. We are so proud of them all.”

The U13s girls’ team, who play in Berkshire League Division 2, has limited spaces available for players in the 2025/2026 season. Anyone interested in joining the team should email beatricedenison@hotmail.com
