HENLEY TOWN continued their fine Premier Division form with a 3-1 home win against basement side WOKINGHAM TOWN RESERVES at The Triangle last Saturday.
The hosts applied early pressure with good efforts from captain Luke Mulvaney and Matt Forster before striker Tommy Fosh opened the scoring after 10 minutes, tapping home after a knock down from a corner.
Fosh scored again minutes later when he cut inside and placed his shot into the corner past Wokingham keeper Callum Coxhead.
Henley created another couple of half chances for the rest of what was a lacklustre
30 minutes of the first half with the visitors not troubling home keeper Ben Palmer.
Town started the second half slowly and were punished in the 55th minute when Wokingham substitute Jack Vierra scrambled the ball home to pull a goal back.
The home side started to wake up and after some good efforts from Markland Tidswell and Fosh being denied a hat-trick by Coxhead. Alex Upton struck a fine shot into the top corner to add a third goal on 80 minutes to wrap up the points.
WOODCOTE came from behind to secure all three points at READING YMCA.
The visitors dominated proceedings at YMCA’s Padworth ground but still found themselves 2-1 down at half-time. YMCA took the lead when Woodcote keeper, Ben Lallament, was unable to hang on to a corner kick and left a striker with an easy tap-in. Woodcote equalised with a long-range left-foot free kick from Andy Taylor, who was making his 100th appearance for the club.
Poor defending presented YMCA with the lead before the break as the winger cut in from the left, beat three defenders and then unleashed a strike which gave Lallament no chance.
The second half was all Woodcote with the equaliser coming after just two minutes. Matt Webber’s long throw found Lewis Mills whose lay-off was neatly finished by Toby Nowell.
For goal number three Nowell returned the compliment as he put Mills through and the winger finished with an angled shot across the keeper.
The fourth goal further exposed the weakness of the YMCA defence against set pieces as Sam Primmer swept home Taylor’s corner from the right. Nowell’s second goal — his 250th for the club — came after he was put through by Matt Webber, and left a defender sprawling as he found the bottom corner of the net.
On 85 minutes, Webber crowned a good personal performance when his long throw was headed home by Joe Parry for 6-2.
GORING UNITED picked up their first three points of the season after winning 2-1 at HOLYPORT RESERVES.
Goring dominated the early exchanges and took the lead after 10 minutes when Sully Akers’s low cross was converted from close range by Bertie Spencer.
Akers could have made it
2 with a header but hit the post following good work from Chris Pocock.
Spencer hit a simple chance over the bar and then had an effort saved by the goalkeeper before Josh Monk picked up the rebound and fired home from
12 yards.
Holyport came more into the game in the second half but Goring still looked the more likely team to score. Spencer and Akers missed good chances before, with five minutes remaining, Holyport scored to set up a nervy finish but Goring’s defence, well marshalled throughout by Ben Storey, stood firm.
WARGRAVE came from behind to secure a point in a 1-1 draw at home to MAIDENHEAD TOWN.
Following a goalless first half, the visitors took the head before James Payne levelled 10 minutes from time.
In Division 4, ROTHERFIELD UNITED DEVELOPMENT drew 2-2 at home to AFC WINKFIELD DEVELOPMENT. Sami Morgan and Jim Davies were the scorers for the hosts.
