Prime Minister's home visit

Prime Minister Theresa May visited a Christmas fair at Pearson Hall in Sonning in aid of Helen & Douglas House.

The Maidenhead MP and her husband Philip met staff from the Oxford children’s hospice and browsed stalls selling jewellery, home-made cakes, clothes and toys.

The fair raised almost £5,000 including the proceeds of a raffle with prizes including meals at the French Horn and Great House in the village and tickets to a show at the Mill at Sonning theatre.

Jean Hugill and Meryem Parker, managers of the Helen & Douglas House shop in Henley, have organised the event for the past four years and Mrs May has attended three of those.

Mrs Hugill, pictured with the Mays, said: “I was delighted that she came along now that she’s Prime Minister. She made some purchases and chatted to everybody. The generosity of people in the area is wonderful. The charity relies on voluntary donations and we want to thank everyone for their support.”
