Readibus safe until the spring

GORING’S fortnightly dial-a-ride bus to Reading has been guaranteed for another six months.

GORING’S fortnightly dial-a-ride bus to Reading has been guaranteed for another six months.

The parish council and the Mobility Issues Group for Goring and Streatley have agreed to pay £350 each to keep Readibus running until March.

The service, which operates as a charity, carries up to 11 elderly people to Reading and back in a specially adapted vehicle.

It used to run every week until Oxfordshire Council Council stopped funding it in April.

The parish council and the mobility group say they will fund it for as long as they can because it is well used.

However, the group has warned its funds are limited and it is seeking a business sponsor to keep the service going in the long term.

Chairman John Boler said: “I am delighted that the council has also agreed to fund it for another six months. I know of one woman who had to go on a waiting list as it was fully booked, so the demand is established.”

Parish council chairman Alan Strong said: “We will keep Readibus under periodic review. We will continue to support it as long as the money is available and the service is being sufficiently used.”

Anyone interested in sponsoring Readibus should call Mr Boler on (01491) 873481.
