Students win design award

PUPILS from the Piggott School in Wargrave won the Design Museum’s 14th annual national design and enterprise challenge for schools.

They designed a fun, portable game for families with the classic I Spy game as the inspiration.

It encourages young children to put their devices down and “look at the world”, thereby encouraging positive mental health.

Players draw cards of different colours and have to look around and find objects in that colour.

The judges said: “The winning design was chosen as it clearly responded to the brief in a way which was creative, fun and appealing to a range of audiences. We didn’t want to put the product down and we knew that customers in the design museum would feel the same.”

Matt Smith, DT teacher, said: “It’s an amazing achievement for the students. We run it in school as part of the curriculum. At end of the project we get the students to pitch their ideas as groups and we pick the winning team we’re going to submit to the competition.

They come in at break and lunch to develop their idea and bring it forward. They’ve really invested their time in it and it paid off.”
