ABOUT 250 residents attended a public meeting to discuss the campaign for a third Thames bridge in Reading.
The meeting at Highdown School in Emmer Green featured a panel of local council and business representatives and was chaired by Reading East MP Rob Wilson.
Mr Wilson said the closure of Sonning Bridge in recent weeks due to the floods had re-opened the debate about the need for a third crossing.
He said he understood the concerns of Oxfordshire County Council and South Oxfordshire District Council, which oppose the idea due to the likely increase in traffic in rural villages.
Mr Wilson added: “I hope that those from Oxfordshire also understand that the traffic piling through Caversham and Reading every day is causing huge delays and quality of life issues for people here.
