FIVE women from Kidmore End decorated the village with knitting to mark the coronation.
The members of the Knit and Natter group created 124ft of tricolour bunting which they put up at the war memorial and they installed a floral wheel of 180 recycled knitted flowers, made for the Queen’s platinum jubilee last year, at the well.
Group founder Caroline McAslan said it began in 2021 in response to lockdown and then to bring together retirees and others with a shared common skill such as sewing or knitting.
The women began the coronation project four months ago, getting together to knit in the parish room and in each other’s gardens whenever they had some spare time.
Mrs McAslan said: “Keeping the project local was a priority. We wanted to use every ball of wool we bought from the Sonning Common haberdashery. We enjoy that we are a local project giving trade to local businesses. There is also a sense of worth around being able to achieve things with the support of local friends.”
After the weekend’s festivities, the bunting and flowers will be handwashed and stored for future celebrations.
